Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz trained to be an ER doctor at The Pitt! Not the fictional one on the HBO show but the real one, Allegheny General Hospital. He knows first-hand what’s at stake with huge Medicaid cuts – it’s a life or death issue. Society must pay attention. Watch as he explains:

If you watch The Pitt, you know what’s at stake with the nearly $1 trillion Medicaid cuts. As a doctor I’ve seen it firsthand. Medicaid cuts are not a budget line. They are 15 million lives without health insurance. This is not fiction. This will worsen the ER overcrowding crisis in hospitals and lead to many hospitals closures. Medicaid cuts will close doors and cost lives.

It’s imperative for society to recognize the potential of all groups, even those who are invisible to most like migrant child farmworkers. Congressman Ruiz worked in the fields as a child. He dreamed of being a doctor from age four and was able to become an ER doctor who served his community by attending UCLA and Harvard. Now a representative in Congress, he has the perspective and experience needed to fight for healthcare for the most vulnerable.

Congressman Ruiz is one of the professionals who is featured in the Migrant Child Farmworkers to High-Profile Professionals©  documentary.
